Notes & Background

This is the only known Gujarati film scored by Salil Chowdhury. The duet “O Laali Re Laali Laali” by Usha Mangeshkar and Manhar Udhas is especially praised for its sweetness and musical richness, reminiscent of early Lata–Mukesh duets.

Salil reused thematic ideas from Bengali and Malayalam works, while blending Gujarati folk sensibilities with orchestral subtleties. The Praful Dave solo “Ho Halo Re Hansa Mala” is considered as sublime as Asha Bhosle’s “O Ghoomer Moina Paakhi” from the Bengali film Paribesh.

There is also a fifth folk-based song not composed by Salil: “Poshe Pachhtaai Shir Suraai” sung by Praful Dave, Diwani-ben & Chorus.
