Notes & Background

Lyricist Gangai Amaran is the brother of the legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, who had earlier played guitar in Salil Chowdhury’s orchestra.

Actress Shobha, who starred in the film, is remembered for her tragic passing in the early 1980s. Director Balu Mahendra later became her partner, and the personal circumstances surrounding their lives have often drawn emotional reflections from film historians.

A mini-LP (catalog no. INRECO 2378-3576) was released containing all four songs. A cassette version followed, and much later a VCD and DVD release brought renewed attention to the film.
