Raagam marks the collaboration of Salil Chowdhury with his close friend Bhim Singh. The film is an adaptation of the Hindi hit Anurag (1972) produced by Shakti Samanta.

Songs from Raagam were released on LP, cassette and later on CD along with tracks from Chemmeen, Nellu, and Rasaleela. However, the sixth song "Guruvayurappan" is absent in those releases, believed to have been removed from the film due to lyric issues, and now survives only on a rare gramophone record.

Notes & Background

Raagam is a Malayalam remake of Shakti Samanta’s 1972 Hindi hit Anurag, and Bhim Singh, a close associate of Salil and husband of noted actress Sukumari, directed the film.

The soundtrack has been circulated across LP, cassette and CD formats, but the song "Guruvayurappan" is absent from most releases and is believed to have been deleted from the film. It survives only on an extremely rare vinyl pressing.

The score reflects Salil’s melodic refinement, featuring singers K. J. Yesudas, P. Susheela, S. Janaki, and Vani Jairam. Several songs have alternate forms across languages, preserving Salil’s multi-regional musical identity.
