Notes & Background

Madanolsavam (1977) is widely considered one of the most successful Malayalam soundtracks composed by Salil Chowdhury. Its songs were admired not only in Kerala, but across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and even among Hindi music lovers.

Many of these compositions were adapted into Tamil (Paruvamajhai), Telugu (Amara Prema), and Hindi (Dil Ka Saathi Dil). The Hindi version was released on a rare vinyl LP, now a collector’s treasure.

Salil’s orchestration is one of the highlights of this album, demonstrating his trademark blend of Western harmonic structure with Indian melodic expression.
