Notes & Background

Though not widely distributed, Zamaana (1957) contains several lively and melodic Salil compositions.

“naiyaa ka meri, tuhi khiwaiyyaa” (ZM1) shows Rafi's effortless command over Salil’s choir-backed rhythmic writing.

Asha’s ZM2 and ZM5 capture the classic mid-50s Salil style — light, catchy, and melodically graceful.

“nahi.n duniyaa aise vaise ki” (ZM4), sung by Manna Dey, is a playful, almost satirical take on modern life, characteristic of Salil’s musical storytelling in the 1950s.

The film also contains two songs composed not by Salil but by Anil Biswas, which are not listed here.
