Notes & Background

Musaafir (1957) is one of Salil’s warmest, most humane soundtracks — steeped in Indian folk idioms and simple, heartfelt melodies.

The children’s classic “munna baDaa pyaara” (MF3) is based on the popular Konkan folk tune “Undir mama muiza”, demonstrating Salil’s lifelong love for folk traditions.

It is also one of the few films where his composition features Dilip Kumar singing alongside Lata Mangeshkar — a rare and historic moment (MF5).

Shyamal Mitra’s philosophical title track (MF2) and the Shamshad–Manna duet (MF4) complete a beautifully varied and emotional album.
