Notes & Background

Mera Damaad (1995) is an unusual entry in Salil Chowdhury’s filmography — a late-career release with minimal publicity, despite a cast including legends like Ashok Kumar and Utpal Dutt.

Song MD1, sung by four playback artists, is a Hindi version of the Bengali song “O phuler dal”. A Hindi adaptation already existed in the soundtrack of Dil Ka Saathi Dil (Hindi dub of Madanolsavam). Salil’s involvement in this song is clear from the melodic structure.

Song MD2 is a pleasant melody sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy, but its authorship is uncertain. Even Antara Chowdhury confirmed that it does not sound like a Salil composition.

Song MD3 is almost certainly not a Salil composition. The singing style and arrangement lean heavily toward composer Babul Bose.

The film remains obscure — a late VHS-era release with little documentation. Only the songs verify the involvement of Salil Chowdhury.
