Daisy (1980) is the Hindi dubbed version of the Malayalam film Chuvanna Chirakkukal. While Salil’s music remains melodically strong, several Hindi versions suffer due to weak lyrics and mismatched vocal delivery.

Mahendra Kapoor’s rendition of “Bichhad more saathi gaye” pales in comparison to Kishore Kumar’s powerful version (“Man kare yaad wo din” – Aakhiri Badlaa).

Vani Jairam’s “Bhoomi naach rahi aaj” is a diluted copy of the far superior original “Hamein yaad kabhi tum kar lena” from Anokhaa Daan.

An EP was released by Inreco containing all four Hindi songs — now extremely rare.

Notes & Background

Daisy demonstrates how a great composition can suffer from poor adaptation. Many Hindi versions feel forced and lose the emotional nuance of the originals.

DY2 is especially criticized — while Kishore’s version remains iconic, Mahendra Kapoor’s rendition is considered stiff and unfeeling.

DY3 and DY4 show Vani Jairam’s effort, but the compositions lose much of the magic present in the Malayalam or Bengali originals.

Despite this, the melodies remain classic Salil — beautifully structured, harmonically rich, and timeless.
