Notes & Background

Anokha Daan is considered one of Salil Chowdhury’s finest musical works. Not just the songs — even the background score stands out for its rich textures and emotional depth.

The masterpiece of the soundtrack is undoubtedly “Mad bhari ye hawaayein”, written by Gulzar and sung by Lata. Many consider it among the greatest Salil–Lata creations.

“Hamein yaad kabhi tum kar lena” has a haunting instrumental version used beautifully in the film. Salil’s orchestral arrangement elevates the melody to another level.

The remaining songs — from the philosophical “Maanaa ke hai zindagi ek safar” to the monsoon-rich “Aayee ghir ghir saawan” — show the full spectrum of Salil’s melodic imagination and Yogesh’s poetic sensitivity.
