Notes & Background

Sei Somoy (1994) stands as one of Salil Chowdhury’s “lost films”—a production that never progressed beyond the music recording stage. However, the songs were fully recorded in 1994, during Asha Bhonsle’s visit to Calcutta.

During this visit, Salil not only recorded two songs with Asha but also conducted a rare televised interview with her for Doordarshan.

The standout composition from this unfinished project is “Neel Aakaash”, sung beautifully by Antara Chowdhury. Its melodic line was later adapted into a superb Kannada version featured in Onde Rupa Eradu Guna.

Though the film was never completed, these recordings remain valuable treasures for Salil admirers — showcasing his late-era creativity and flawless collaboration with Asha and Antara.
