Notes & Background

Parabesh (1980) features a colourful variety of compositions, each carrying Salil’s signature blend of folk textures, humour, and sophisticated melody.

“Taak Dum Taak Dum” is an energetic Manna Dey number, filled with rhythmic bounce and characteristic Salil-style phrasing.

“Ore Mon Gun Gun” showcases Sabita Chowdhury in one of her most expressive performances. Its Malayalam counterpart (AP1) carries the same emotional core.

“Kanaa Maachhi Bho.n Bho.n” is a fun, folksy, humorous track featuring Sabita, Pankaj Mitra and Antara Chowdhury — a delightful example of Salil’s playful side.

“O Ghoomer Moyna Paakhi” is the standout of the album. Asha Bhonsle delivers a beautifully tender performance, and the tune appears again in Malayalam (RG2) and even in an “Other” variation (GS1).
