Notes & Background

Mowchor (1985) is one of those mysterious films that may never have been released at all. For decades, the only traces of its existence were a couple of rare Inreco EP records. A full soundtrack CD finally appeared in 2007.

The song "Nui desham baagham hein" appears to be a traditional folk form, though the language itself is difficult to identify. Its structure strongly resembles regional folk songs Salil encountered during his IPTA years.

"Aamaar dukkher seemaa naai" was originally used in the film Raatbhore, performed by Satinath Mukhopadhyay. Many consider that version to be superior.

"Rasabhaare dagamaga" has roots in an IPTA-era composition Salil wrote during the tebhaga movement of the late 1940s. The original version contained long, story-like lyrics full of wry humour and political commentary.
