Notes & Background

Ei Ritur Akdin is one of the many ambitious projects Salil Chowdhury planned but never completed. However, several songs for the film were recorded, all of which reveal strong IPTA influences.

“Karon akaraner beDa” and “Aami rajneetifeetir dhaar dhaarina” are classic IPTA compositions, sung powerfully by Manna Dey. These songs reflect the socially charged, politically conscious music Salil was known for in the 1940s.

The third song, “Amaar kichhu moner aasha”, is originally a beloved Utpala Sen recording. Salil had planned to include a new rendition by Anup Ghosal, but sadly no copy of this recording appears to exist today.

The film reportedly shared thematic similarities with Akdin Raatre, even including a scene resembling Chhobi Biswas’s famous drunken walk home. Because of this overlap, Raj Kapoor—who funded Akdin Raatre—discouraged reusing the song in that film, leading Salil to compose the now-iconic “Ei duniyaay bhai sobi hoy” instead.

Though the film vanished into obscurity, the songs remain valuable documents of Salil’s creative evolution during and after his IPTA years.
